No real concensis exists for what qualifies as a short film. According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences a short film is any original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits. The term short subject refers to the same thing. Short films are often made by independent animators inorder to attract the attention of studios, and production companies.
