Winky dink and you

Winky Dink and You is an animated TV series that aired on CBS, Saturday Mornings 10:30 a.m. Eastern / 9:30 Central from 1953 to 1957. The series was revived in syndication for 65 episodes from 1959 to 1973.

Overview[]

Winky Dink has been hailed as the worlds first Interactive Television Series. For fifty cents one could purchase a kit that came with a large Vynel plastic sheet, and crayons. At key points in the show Winky Dink would prompt the viewers to complete a connect the dot puzzle that would form something needed for him to continue in the story. For example, a bridge. Winky Dink also featured a decoding system.

Concern rose over X-Ray exposure (a problem found in early Colorized Tubular TV systems), a concern coupled with complaints that children without the kit where actually drawing on the TV screens, got the show cancelled. It was latter revived in 1959 under Syndication.
